Explore Furnace Valley in Black Myth Wukong, conquering fiery foes and uncovering legendary powers in this thrilling, high-stakes adventure.
Venturing into the scorching depths of Furnace Valley in Black Myth Wukong is no simple pilgrimage. It's a trial by fire, a crucible where the Destined One faces searing enemies and formidable guardians. From the moment one leaps from the cliff's edge beyond the Ashen Pass II Shrine, a world of molten rock and ancient secrets unfolds. Why is this valley so pivotal, and what legendary powers lie hidden within its fiery heart? The journey begins now.
🔥 Navigating the Blazing Path
From the drop point, the path is clear yet perilous. After absorbing that initial green wisp for Will, the Destined One must immediately contend with Searing-Fire enemies. These fiery adversaries are just a taste of what's to come. The first major landmark is the Valley Entrance Shrine, guarded by a formidable Earth Rakshasa. Offering incense here is crucial to establish a foothold in this hostile land.
Beyond the shrine, the valley branches. One must be strategic:
-
Right Path (Scorched Ground): Leads to a chest containing Kun Steel, but it's guarded by a Turtle Treasure wreathed in blue flames. Defeating it yields the Turtle Treasure (Spirit).
-
Alternative Right Path: Safer, lava-free route leading to a chest with Fine Gold Thread, guarded by a Tenner. Don't miss the broken ox cart here—it holds significance later! A green wisp nearby offers more Will.
-
Left Path: This route holds a Fire Date and, more importantly, the assembly of large boulders heralding the first major encounter.

🪨 Confronting the Flint Chief
Before engaging the Flint Chief, one non-negotiable rule: equip the Fireproof Mantle! This optional boss, a massive rock creature, fights entirely on scorched ground. Its attacks are slow but devastating, involving powerful slams and sweeping hands that unleash lava. Is the risk worth it? Absolutely. Victory rewards the brave with:
-
Samadhi Fire Crystal
-
x2 Silk
-
x1 Cold Iron Leaves
-
The Flint Chief (Spirit)
After the battle, the path continues, presenting an Earth Rakshasa engulfed in blue flames guarding another chest. Its flame breath can be a one-hit killer, so caution is paramount. Defeating it grants the Earth Rakshasa (Spirit), and the chest holds a Celestial Ribbon and a Mind Core.
☁️ The Twin Beasts: Cloudy Mist & Misty Cloud
The valley's heat gives way to an open area where a cutscene triggers a unique duel. The Cloudy Mist, Misty Cloud boss is a pair of beasts that fight in tandem, testing the Destined One's adaptability and endurance. Defeating this dynamic duo is richly rewarded:
-
x2 Cold Iron Leaves
-
Knot of Voidness
-
Fine Gold Thread
-
The Misty Cloud, Cloudy Mist (Spirit)
🏯 Secrets of the Rakshasa Palace & The Emerald Hall
Ascending the stairs past the twin beasts reveals the Rakshasa Palace Shrine. The area here is dense with treasure:
| Location | Loot Found |
|---|---|
| Path to the right of shrine | Gold pot with Celestial Taiyi Pill |
| Same area | Gold chest with Blood of the Iron Bull, Small Piece of Gold, Large Piece of Gold |
Thorough exploration is key—more chests and green wisps are hidden around. The main path then leads across bridges, past Bull and Flame Rhino Master enemies, to an area guarded by two Sea Rakshasas. One holds the Gold Button Curio—they must be defeated.
Dropping down to the scorched ground and heading left leads to a fateful meeting. In a secluded room, the old sage Yuan Shoucheng awaits. Here, a glowing barrel can be broken for an Awaken Wine Worm. Speaking to the sage and interacting with the central flame grants the Supreme Gourd—but only if the Destined One's own Gourd has been fully upgraded to the Medicine Buddha Gourd with 9 Healing Charges! Exiting and heading to the right pagoda leads to The Emerald Hall Shrine.
⚡ The Ma Tianba Quest: A Crucial Prerequisite
This is a critical juncture. Before proceeding to the valley's climax, one must ensure all interactions with Ma Tianba from previous chapters are complete. Failing to do so will lock the Destined One out of obtaining the powerful Dark Thunder Transformation Spell later. Have you spoken to him everywhere? His locations are:
-
Bamboo Grove: From the Back Hills Shrine, down the stairs, left path, near the Meditation Spot.
-
Sandgate Village: From the Village Entrance Shrine, cross the bridge, right to the old Earth Wolf boss arena.
-
New Thunderclap Temple: A complex route through the temple, ending on a balcony near a wooden bridge.
-
Webbed Hollow: From the Middle Hollow Shrine, down the broken bridge, into a bone-littered area, freeing him from a large web cocoon.
Exhaust all his dialogue until it repeats. Only then is one truly ready.
🌋 The Final Guardians: Keeper of Flaming Mountains & Yin-Yang Fish
Ascending the stairs from The Emerald Hall triggers the grand finale. The Keeper of Flaming Mountains transports the Destined One to a hidden arena. This boss prefers ranged projectile attacks and will summon lesser yaoguais while hovering safely above.
After depleting most of his health, a cutscene sees him summon his ultimate ally: the Yin-Yang Fish. This beast attacks with powerful tail slaps and aerial projectile barrages. Its occasional, lengthy howl is a prime window to unleash maximum damage.
Victory against both entities is monumental. The rewards are worthy of the challenge:
-
Celestial Ribbon
-
x2 Fine Gold Thread
-
The majestic Yin-Yang Daoist Robe
🏆 Claiming the Ultimate Rewards
Returned to the altar, the journey isn't over. Interact with the item here to acquire the Loong Balm. Head outside to the balcony for a Meditation Spot. Returning to the altar and taking the left path leads to a turtle pot containing the Slumbering Beetle Husk.
Now, for the final piece: fast-travel back to the Valley Entrance Shrine. Return to that broken ox cart noted earlier. Interacting with it now yields the coveted Dark Thunder Transformation Spell—the fruit of completing Ma Tianba's quest.
🛡️ The Road to Field of Fire
Returning to The Emerald Hall Shrine, the path forward climbs. Turning left and ascending more stairs leads through enemy ambushes to a final confrontation: the Crimson-Silver Cart, a mythical creature with the body of a cart. Defeating it clears the way. A note: if all dialogues with the Pale-Axe Stalwart in the Woods of Ember were exhausted, he will appear here after this battle.
The final stretch of the main path culminates at the Ashen Pass III Shrine, the gateway to the next trial: the Field of Fire. Furnace Valley, with all its flames, treasures, and trials, is finally behind. The Destined One emerges not just stronger, but armed with legendary tools and transformations, ready for the next legend to be written.
